An era of loyalty and betrayal. A decade of the gangsters!

The film opens with President Noh Tae-woo declaring war against organized crime in October 1990. Crime boss Ik-hyun is swarmed by a group of hungry press as he is led inside the prosecutor’s office. The story flashes back to 1982 and shows, how in just a short decade, an ordinary civil servant became the boss of a large organized crime syndicate when he became involved with shady figures and how he is a byproduct of the said decade. Seeing two characters in a power struggle, carrying his vision for his organization and slowly taking over the city of Busan can be at times romantic and appealing, violent and vile. It’s the era of power and money, not one of justice and order, captures the essence of that period.

A match-up like no other, acting veteran CHOI Min-sik + passionate young HA Jung-woo

There are actor match-ups that spark curiosity because one can’t imagine what kind of synergy would show up on the screen when they’re brought together. Such was the case for CHOI Min-sik and HA Jung-woo. When the press release of the actors participating in was announced to the world, netizens were feverishly chatting up a storm, jokingly mentioning that it’s the ultimately match-up of serial killers. But to everyone’s surprise, has enough comedic elements to be called a comedy, not a thriller genre piece that both of these actors are known for.

Even if CHOI Min-sik and HA Jung-woo can carry the film, they can’t fly very far without a solid group of supporting roles. is lucky to have several important character actors in key supporting roles, including JO Jin-woong as Hyung-bae’s chief competitor, MA Dong-suk as Ik-hyun’s chivalrous right hand man, KIM Sung-gyun as Hyung-bae’s main go-to henchman, and finally GWAK Do-won as the unflinching prosecutor who will go to extreme lengths to bring down all organize crime syndicates in Busan. This diverse group of actors come together to add colors and flair to the ‘80s and allow the two main stars to rise to the top.
